Dental crowns are custom tooth prosthetics that replace or restore damaged or missing teeth. Crowns are permanently cemented over the surfaces of natural tooth structure and blend seamlessly with your natural teeth. At Carefree Smiles Dentistry, you will most often leave with your final crown the same day! We have three scanners that eliminate the need for impressions, and three milling units that are used to make your custom porcelain crown. This means that you will only need to come in for one 2-hour appointment with no need for a temporary.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a crown right for me?
If you have a tooth that is damaged or decayed, but still intact, a dental crown may be right for you. The best way to determine if you are a candidate for a porcelain crown is to make an appointment with one of our dentists.
What should I expect when my crown is placed?
If you are a candidate for a crown, your teeth will be shaped to ensure a proper fit. A 1-minute scan is then taken of the tooth with a handheld wand, and you will have about 45 minutes to relax while your crown is being made. The color of the crown is matched to the surrounding teeth and is then permanently cemented.
Do I need to follow any post-treatment care guidelines?
Your teeth will need time to heal following the crown procedure, so it is normal for you to experience some sensitivity – especially to cold – for up to two weeks. You may also experience some slight gum sensitivity surrounding the tooth, and rinsing with warm salt water can alleviate this discomfort.
